Sahabat, a two-years-old pygmy elephant was found wandering alone at the plantation Felda Sahabat. Both his eyes were badly infected and if he wasn’t discovered at all, there is a huge possibility he would have become permanently blind.
Fate however, has a different plan for he was found by plantation workers who helped care for him until the rescue team from the wildlife department arrived. Sahabat was later transferred to the Lokkawi Wildlife Park where he underwent treatment and minor surgeries to remove infected parts of his body. His caretakers at the zoo practically worked 24-hours to ensure he took his medications on time and their effort paid off. He has recovered 95 percent of his eyesight.
