Former beauty queen Chin Ling Ling who is standing as an independent candidate for the Luyang state seat come Sept 26, is using creative means to campaign.
Bound by SOPs due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this Sabah Independent Candidate Alliance (ICA) member chose to use a mobile campaigning method among others to attract the attention of voters.
The mother of two launched the ‘campaigning on roads’ programme on Friday (Sept 18).
“In today’s world, we cannot just follow the traditional style of campaigning which is having talks and visiting houses only,” Chin, 49, said.
“This is because we are now down with Covid-19 so we must make sure we take care of everyone’s safety first,” she added.
She said campaigning on roads is not only efficient, it can also cover more grounds.
The driver of the campaign vehicle would just need to drive around the area while putting on a loudspeaker with the messages needed playing on repeat.
Chin, who is an accountant by profession is the first election candidate to use a broadcast van for the campaign this time around.
Many voters might not be familiar with Chin. However, she is not just someone who suddenly pops out of nowhere to contest as a candidate as she has been doing ground charity and welfare works for the past 10 years.
She is founder of I Link Berhad, an NGO that focused on various people-issues including social, economy, education and welfare.
Back in 1991, she joined the state level Unduk Ngadau (Harvest Queen) competition and came up as a first runner up for Penampang district.
