The month of Ramadhan is here again, and for the entire month of May and right up to June, we will be able to see a colourful array of wonderful cuisines, both traditional and contemporary, from prices as low as 70 sen to several hundred ringgit. And whether you’re craving for satays or that delicious lamb stew, or even that delectable nasi lemak and curry chicken, there are plenty of deals out there in Kota Kinabalu for you to choose from. It all depends on where you dine. So far, I’ve surveyed three places, and here they are.
Asia City Ramadhan Bazaar
If you have a minimal budget to adhere to, then this would be the place to go. I’ve seen pricing from as low as 70 sen here. There’s also a sumptuous variety, from the sweet kuih lapis and kuih pisang, to chicken wings, nasi ayam penyet, lamb chops and so many more. One would just have to walk from one end of the bazaar to the other end to see just how much varieties there are. Pricing wise, I would say that they are quite affordable. So it is worth a visit, throughout the Ramadhan month. A word of warning though — traffic is often bad from 2pm onwards due to the bazaar. So if you can walk to the bazaar, that would be a better choice.
Hotel Palace, Karamusing
Hotel Palace is also serving its Ramadhan treat during the holy month. It is also affordable since the buffet style dining allows you to fill up your plate until you cannot eat anymore.
Hilton Hotel, Kota Kinabalu
Pricing is a bit on the luxury side. They serve crabs, crayfish, prawns, lamb chops, kebabs, chicken rice, noodle soup, cakes and so much more. There was simply no way I could taste everything offered although I was hoping of being able to do so.
