KOTA KINABALU: The biggest Plogging event in Sabah will be held in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and safeguarding environment.
Plogging is an eco-activity that combines jogging or running while picking up trash along the way.
The event which will be organised by Evo Argo Solutions and Evoworld Malaysia is expecting around 5,000 people to participate in one of the biggest plogging event in Sabah on the 29 September around Tanjung Aru areas.
The plogging activity will be covering areas such as residential, retails, schools, beach, and floating villages around Tanjung Aru.
Organising Chairman of the event Philip Chang said the event hopes to raise public awareness in safeguarding the environment and to educate everyone about the importance of reducing the consumption of plastic bags and other materials that could harm the environment.

“Plogging is a popular trend in Europe and we want to implement it here in Sabah to raise the public awareness on plastic pollution that has severely affected our environment, especially in the KK city area.
“We as Sabahan, should take immediate action in protecting our environment as this will also affect our marine life due to plastic pollution,” he said this in a press conference on Thursday.
Philip added that without the support from all parties including the public, government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the issue would not be solved.
“Not only this event is a healthy activity to be enjoyed with our friends and families, but it could also help develop the habit of picking up rubbish among the younger generation,” he stated.
He also disclosed that around 800 people have already registered in the event including volunteers, and hoped that more people around Sabah to partake in the event.
“We hope that through this event we can achieve our target of making Sabah as one of the cleanest states by 2022 and that it will be a continuous event,” he said.
He said, they are also hopping to organize similar event in all districts in Sabah in the future.
He also mentioned that there will also be a mini concert and exhibitions such as information booth about environment, local products, performances by popular local artists as well as lucky draw worth RM30,000 during the event.
Participants who are interested to join the event are required to pay RM30 per person. Participants will receive a kit, which includes a headband, reusable gloves, gunny bag, and an e-certificate.
